About Youre-A-Doll
I started making dolls in 2006 when my daughter won a National pageant title. Part of the prize package was a custom doll made by another company. Back then, their dolls starting price was $2300 and that was for a doll of their choice - not a replica of the queen. The year ended and the girls did not receive their dolls. These girls were more excited about their doll than the designer purses!!
I grew up in a home with a mom that was a doll collector. She was also a very accomplished seamstress. I'll never have the talent that my mother did, but she did teach me quite a bit. When I saw the disappointment on my daughters face about not getting a doll...the lightbulb came on!! I knew I could make one for her and her sister queens. They came out so much better than I even expected.
Other titleholders saw the dolls and wanted one. I mean, what girl doesn't want a Barbie that looks like them?? Since then I've made a few thousand dolls. I've learned so much about the techniques I use to make them so much more special. Some ask "why are they so expensive?" That's easy to answer, because of the materials cost and time it takes to create on doll.
I've learned where to get the best quality rhinestones, how to apply eyelashes, how to dye fabric, dye hair, paint hair and re-root hair. Some Barbies hair takes curls easily, and some can take over a week to be able to hold curl. Even the fabric we use has been trial and error due to the 1/6 scale of the doll. It's very common to order 2-3 dolls and 3-4 different fabrics before I find one that I feel will work. We don't repaint faces (other than eye color), but it's so cool to see how the entire look seems to transform the basic doll to a doll that replicates the subject just by adding the curled hair, the evening dress and sash.
Creating Cherished Memories
We’ve learned that regardless of age, almost everyone loves being recreated into a look-a-like Barbie Doll (we have no affiliation with Mattel). We’re created dolls for clients ages 4 - 84.
It was such an honor to create a doll for Miss World, several dolls for Miss Universe and Miss USA as well as Miss America. In addition, we have made a few hundred dolls for other major pageant systems such as National American Miss, Miss High School American, Miss Ideal Miss, International Junior Miss, Royal International Miss, Miss United States of America, Miss Volunteer America and so many more. We’ve made dolls in evening gowns as well as dolls to replicate their talent or runway looks.
It was so much fun to create dolls to look like contestants from Ru Pauls Drag Race as well as a few dolls of a nationally known cyclists (bicycle and all). We’ve made a doll for a pageant contestant in a wheelchair and dolls of pageant directors or coaches (male and female). We’ve had the honor of recreating the look for several beautiful brides and cheerleaders (high school and NBA cheerleaders). I
